The other day I stumbled upon this movie called "In Time" (2011). It recently has aired in theaters and I am highly interested with the idea. The movie's plot is about a future society where the currency is time. People stop aging at the age of 25 but are only able to live for one more year and the only way to live a youthful immortality is to buy time. Everyone has a timer on their wrist showing how much time each individual has.
I have yet to see this movie, but simply reading the plot makes me think of how people are so quick to opt for more time in this world in fear of dying. This movie really represents society's view on death and how everyone really wishes we can all live forever young.
I recently just saw this movie in theaters. Ther's a line that in the movie where Juystin Timberlake says "If even one person has to die than we should all have to die too". He said this as he stole a million years from this rich-in-time (money was the form of currency) old man who owned almost all the "time-banks" in the country. Death is something so fearful to most people and in this movie, people that were good friends literlly killed each other by one stealing the time from the other. Here, people were almost desenzitized to the idea of death and they were used to people all around the m dying even if they fought tooth and nail for even just a few more hours.
ReplyDeleteYet, there is also the character who was centuries old who gave away his time because he was tired of living forever. This shows that eventhough people fear dieing, especially when they are young, there is also somewhat of a relief to fianlly get your rest.
That seems like such a good movie! I will definitely have to rent it when it comes out on DVD. I love movies that step out of the box and discuss concepts that are unheard of. Thanks for the recommendation!
