My father came home the other day and learned of a "green cremation" company. It uses environmentally friendly means to cremate the body. I found it rather unusual because i never thought about cremation being an environmental problem.

I never thought about that. I have heard that cremations are better for the environment than burial, but I did find an interesting article about this problem and another method of greener cremations, called aquamation. As it turns out, normal cremations can create up to 350 pounds of greenhouse gasses per corpse. Aquamation uses the process of alkaline hydrolysis which leaves nothing but the soft bone afterwards and creates significantly less green house gasses. The crushed bones are then given to the deceased’s family. Great post and great article; certainly taught me something.
