Forest Gump

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=veEQWKsda88&feature=related

I was watching Forest Gump last night and during this scene I was thinking about everything that we have talked about thus far in class. Forests' mom is at peace with her dying. I believe that this is an example of a good death. Even though Forest doesn't really understand why she has to die now, she has the opportunity to teach him one last thing before she died. This is such a touching scene in the movie, and I am glad that I could better understand how she felt, because of what we had learned.

  1. I have seen this movie before and I remember this scene. But after listening to our lectures in class, I feel like my thoughts have become much deeper about what is about to happen. Forrest's mother is about to die and she is okay with it. She seems confident in accepting what is to come in the next few days. Forrest's mother played a big role in his life and was able to provide him with a last few words of advice. Just as you said, this scene makes me happy for this special moment in his life.

  2. I have to agree with what has already been said. I've seen this movie multiple times before and not until being in this class have appreciated how the directors and producers of the movie portrayed death so well. Both the mom and Jenny knew their time was coming while Forest looked lost and confused on why they had to go. Both the mom and Jenny seemed to have a peaceful death and accepted what was coming and instead appreciated the days they had left. They all seem to have great parting words with Forest, including Bubba. Very good movie and once again very good portrayal of death.

  3. Forest Gump is a favorite movie of mine. I believe that Forest's understanding of the death of his mother is almost a little like how a child understands death. A little naive and does not quite understand why his mother has to leave him. Then when the love of his life, Jenny was dying he was more aware of what was going on even though he still did not quite undderstand the reasoning for this. I absolutly think that they both had a good death. Both of the deaths were peaceful and had the presents of family and loved ones. Those are great examples of good deaths.
