A Work of Edvard Munch

This painting was done by Norgewian artist Edvard Munch in 1897 and is entitled The Dead Mother and Child. The painting reflects a typical 19th century deathbed scene. Munch also painted the work that is on the cover of our textbook.

  1. What's great about looking at this art work is how today we have live videos of death, movies distinctly expressing emotions of losing someone, and how far we have come technology wise. This painting makes me few sorrow for the child, but if music was in the background, a smell was being released, and the child was moving, I think the realism of the artwork would have changed and challenge the viewer. The right order of death is parents first then kids, but when a child loses his parents at an early age like myself, sometimes one can wish it wasn't so.
