The Famous Engraving of Abraham Lincoln and George Washington
This is the famous engraving by John Sartain, entitled Abraham Lincoln, The Martyr Victorious, from 1865. The artwork depicts George Washington welcoming Abraham Lincoln to heaven.
I just got back from DC a day the earthquake hit there. When I visited Lincolns memorial I was expecting to see a real live tomb, more than just a man sitting on a chair. Looking at this picture makes me think why would he want to go to heaven, where millions of tourists come visit him everyday and take his picture.
